Hospital Policies & Payment Options Exceptional Care for
Exceptional Pets

Appointment Policy

To serve as many patients as possible, we operate by appointment only. Emergency cases involving our current patients always receive top priority, which may occasionally result in appointment delays. Please understand that we make a sincere effort to see each client on time.

Please call ahead to schedule an appointment with our courteous and professional front office staff. Booking in advance increases the likelihood of securing your preferred doctor and time slot.

Day admission appointments may be available for our current patients. This option allows you to bring your pet at a convenient time and leave them with us for a few hours. We usually request that you drop off your pet in the morning so our doctors can examine them between scheduled appointments or during reserved times. Please allow 10-15 minutes for our veterinary nurses to collect a detailed patient history during admission. This includes information on the reason for the visit, your best contact phone number, and a convenient time to discuss the veterinarian's findings, recommended treatments, and care plan for your pet.

To ensure the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations are up to date and that pets are free from external parasites.

Arrival Policy

For safety reasons, we ask that all pets be restrained while awaiting their appointments, either by leash or crate. Regardless of how well-trained your dog or cat may be, we believe this is in the best interest of all parties involved.

If you suspect your pet has possibly contracted a contagious disease, such as kennel cough, please let us know so we can make special accommodations and prevent the spread of disease.

No-Shows, Same-Day Cancellations & Late Arrival Policy

At The Animal Hosptial of Barrington, we want to make sure your experience with us is as smooth and convenient as possible. To achieve this, we kindly ask for your cooperation with our appointment policies:

Cancellation Notice

If you need to cancel your scheduled appointment, we require that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Your early cancellation will allow another patient to receive timely veterinary care.

Late Arrival

If you are running late, please let us know as soon as possible. If your delay exceeds 10 minutes, we may need to reschedule your appointment for another day and time. We will do our best to find a time that works for you.

No-Shows and Same-Day Cancellations

We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you cannot make your scheduled appointment and need to cancel on the same day, please let us know as soon as possible.

After three (3) documented instances of a “No-Show” or “Same-Day Cancellation”, an appointment reservation fee equal to the examination fee will be required to schedule future appointments to ensure fairness to both our clients and our team.

*For surgical and dental procedures, a procedure reservation fee of $300 may be required after the first instance. *

We want to assure you that these policies are in place to enhance the efficiency of our services and provide the best care possible for your pet. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Prescription Policies

Veterinary medicine is facing a rise in improper prescription requests, fraud, and third-party errors by non-clinical personnel. At The Animal Hospital of Barrington, our priority is your pet's health and well-being. Medications dispensed from our hospital come from trusted and reliable manufacturers and a qualified team who can answer your questions and provide safety information as it pertains to your individual pet’s health. We can assure you receive the proper drug, dosage, and most importantly a safe product. One of the greatest dangers in veterinary medicine is improper prescription requests. To protect our patients and provide excellent service, we urge you to follow our safest prescription request policy.

You can request prescription refills 3 easy ways:

  1. Request a prescription for IN-HOSPITAL click HERE
  2. Order online with HOME DELIVERY through our online pharmacy HERE
  3. Call 603-236-7288

While we strive to accommodate requests promptly, please provide 48 hours (2 business days) notice for prescription requests. For refills of special-order prescription medication, food, or merchandise for in-hospital pickup, we require 7 business days’ notice. If you choose to use a third-party online pharmacy, we encourage you to plan 7 to 10 business days ahead to ensure adequate turnaround time for all parties involved.

Third-Party Prescription Requests

We respect the right of our clients to get their pet’s medication from the pharmacy of their choice. However, many requests from third-party online pharmacies are inappropriate. By filling prescriptions directly with us, we ensure safe and efficient service.

If you prefer to use a third-party online pharmacy, our policy will be to issue you a handwritten prescription for you to pick up at the hospital. We do not accept faxed requests from third-party pharmacies. This prescription can be taken or mailed to any pharmacy of your choosing. We advise that you keep a copy of the prescription for your records and ensure you receive the correct medication with the correct dosing instructions. Each pharmacy will have its own policies as to how they process written prescriptions. Please make sure to check with the pharmacy you plan on using in advance so there won’t be any lapse in medications if they require you to mail in the handwritten prescription.

Need to Know

  • Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship – If your pet needs medication, the New Hampshire Board of Veterinary Medicine stipulates that there must be a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship. This means that in order for us to be able to fill any prescriptions one of our veterinarians needs to have examined your animal within the past twelve (12) months. Some medications require follow-up appointments and/or lab work to help monitor the response and risks associated with the use of the medication.
  • Refill Requests Timing– Most of our prescription requests will be filled within the same day but we ask that you allow 48 hours for any prescriptions to be filled to allow time for our doctors to review the request and your pet’s medical record.
  • We require 7 days' notice for refills of special order prescription medication/food or merchandise.
  • Online Pharmacy Prescriptions – Our relationship with the drug manufacturers ensures that the prescription drugs we dispense are safe and trusted. In fact, all of the major veterinary drug manufacturers maintain a strict practicing veterinary–only sales policy. These manufacturers have this policy in place because they know that veterinarians and their staff are best suited to discuss the issues relating to safety and efficacy, as well as the side effects and risks that may be associated with your animal companion.
